The woven, translucent wood panel ceiling is a striking, contemporary design element of the restaurant. Designed to screen exposed plumbing in the ceiling and improve acoustics, the panels were nearly eliminated because of budgetary concerns. Determined to save this signature element, the architectural team utilized their in-house workshop and agreed to fabricate and install the panels within the budget allowance. Constructed of translucent wood veneer and Plexiglas, panels are backlit to create a warm glow.
Space Constructors, LLC
We started our own general contracting company in 2007 to achieve greater control of design execution, providing one source of responsibility for our clients from design through construction and to strengthen our capabilities as architects. Unlike many "Integrated Design-Build" companies, Space Constructors is led by Architects, not contractors. This issue is important because as architects, it is in our interest that the project is built to maximize the functional and aesthetic qualities of the design.
All of our construction agreements are structured to be 100% transparent and inclusive. We involve our clients in the competitive bid evaluation and provide the ability to know where every construction dollar is allocated throughout the entire process.
We build a small portion of our projects, and we enjoy excellent working relationships with many general contracting companies. Many of our contracting partners appreciate the better understanding we have gained by integrating SPACE Constructors into our service portfolio. By running our own construction projects, we understand the difficulties that are faced by contractors with an inadequate set of drawings. We are better architects for it.
At SPACE Constructors we lead with design. Combining our construction management with our in house fabrication wood and metal shop, we can provide turn key services to our clients and greatly simplify the process. We believe the unification of design and construction services benefits the client much the same way it does for an airplane, a car, or the sculpture artist.
