We are Architects, Designers & Builders

For over twenty years, SPACE has designed and built some of St. Louis’ most notable hospitality spaces. Launched in 2005 by architect Tom Niemeier, SPACE has been rooted in design-first construction using timeless materials and conscientious craftsmanship. The team always strives to bring as much value as possible to the client’s investment by prioritizing what is most important to the client and ensuring that the materials and methods employed will last.

Our team prides itself on approaching each project with a fresh eye, using materials in innovative ways, and challenging our craftspeople to find clever solutions to the challenges at hand.

Our team of St. Louis, Missouri and Illinois-based construction engineers work to find efficient solutions to every project in Collinsville, Olivette, Maryland Heights, and St. Peters.

With a seamless blend of architecture, interior design, and construction, we partner with discerning clients to transform their visions into timeless, functional masterpieces, built with uncompromising quality and care.

WHERE WE WORK

Despite our name, SPACE works in the midwest, focusing on Missouri and Illinois. We are proud to have clients in the St. Louis metropolitan area and suburbs, Columbia (Missouri and Illinois!), Edwardsville, Belleville, Fairview Heights, O’Fallon (Missouri and Illinois), all the way down to Waterloo and Murphysboro.

TEAMWORK
We are all in this together, and it’s not a competition. We cheer each other on, and we help each other out. Mistakes happen, but we don’t point fingers and gripe; we work together to get the job done well. 

INNOVATION
We won’t settle for “we’ve always done it that way” (although we do remember lessons we’ve learned!), and we approach every project with a fresh set of eyes and a new way of conceiving of space, leaning on other disciplines for inspiration.

INTEGRITY AND HONESTY
We want to go to work to design and build great projects and feel good about the way we do it. We are transparent with our fees. We strive to have solid, long-term relationships with our clients. 

CONTINUOUS LEARNING
We are perpetual students. We don’t know it all, and it’s up to us to seek out new information and be well-informed to best serve our clients. We take great inspiration from Corita Kent’s Art Department Rules. 

KINDNESS
Beyond what we do for paying clients, we use our skills to help our community at large and those who are sometimes forgotten during the design process. Our SPACEhabitat case study house is an example of how we aspire to serve others in life-changing ways.

BEHIND THE SCENES

Get a tour of what SPACE is all about from our Barkitect, Friday

Friday is the resident food moocher, overly sensitive alarm system, and snuggle bug. You’ll find her sleeping under a table, enthusiastically greeting you at the front door, or intently watching you eat your lunch.

Friday Niemeier runs the show at Space Design and Construction: sanding out ruff edges in Belleville, fetching the best craftsmen in St. Peters, and staying loyal to your vision in St. Louis.
