With a 950 square foot space near Washington University and an equally small budget, SPACE Design + Construction closely collaborated with lauded restauranteur Zöe Robinson to bring her vision for Bobo Noodlehouse to the dining scene near University City and Clayton. SPACE interior designers created a sleek, contemporary restaurant while our contractors managed the construction.
The end result? A small, hip café that landed SPACE an American Institute of Architects Award of Honor in Interiors, the highest recognition given by the group.
Functionality followd form at Bobo Noodlehouse, which beautifully integrated a full-service kitchen and comfortable seating for 32 in a modern environment that remained accessible to the neighborhood’s student population without sacrificing sophistication.

Out of the Box
The space at Bobo was anchored by a wood box construction clad in laminated wood that is typically used for flooring. This box housed the open kitchen, dishwashing pit, and order counter. Taking advantage of the 16-foot ceilings, the mechanical systems were consolidated above the kitchen, giving the dining area an airy and open feel to keep the small space from feeling cramped.
