Bartolinos on the Hill
2103 Sulphur Ave,
St. Louis, MO 63139
In a quick eight-week renovation, we helped the Saracinos re-envision their 2006 Bartolino’s on the Hill restaurant into a more contemporary space. Aside from some minor moves — expanding the server station and moving the host stand — we kept all existing walls, and relied on new furniture, finishes, and lighting to keep the schedule and budget tight for the clients. This was a full team effort from SPACE, with design and construction teams working together for the very beginning to determine an accurate schedule and budget early so the restaurateurs could plan their grand reopening.

Dining in Comfort & Style
The soft seating was custom made for the client, and chairs and barstools were carefully selected for comfort of all guests. Tabletops were fabricated to match the new bar top.
Furnishings and Functionality
For both budget and time, we kept the existing heavy wall texture, but elevated the palette to warm neutrals with white oak paneling, brass accents, and walnut furniture. The new look relies on rich textures and an understated aesthetic. In the bar, we contrasted the lightness of the dining room with black marble, dark walls, and a herringbone-patterned floor. Beyond upgrades to the finishes, we opened the exterior wall with large sliding doors to better connect the existing outdoor patio with the bar.
Elevating the Experience
Visually, the new restaurant is almost unrecognizable from the original, but the food and wine St. Louisans have come to love have remained the same.
