Essere Blu began with a vision: to create an intentional, immersive environment designed to inspire connection, creativity, and wellness. The SPACE team helped bring that vision to life for owners Nicole and Charles Gillick at their newly constructed flagship location in Crestwood. Designed to support holistic care and an expanded wellness experience, the salon was conceived as a space that could grow and evolve alongside the community it serves.
Mood and balance guided every design decision. Oversized chandeliers finished in International Klein Blue create focal points throughout the salon, drawing the eye and establishing visual rhythm from one area to the next. Stainless steel surfaces and industrial details amplify the boldness of the blue, while skylights, warm woods and preserved moss installations help bring natural elements indoors. Together, these materials create an environment that feels both energetic and calming, sophisticated and approachable.

Lighting with Purpose
Lighting was equally important to the experience. Consistency became a guiding principle, with every track fixture, sconce, and pendant specified at 3500K to create a continuous color temperature from shampoo bowl to styling station. While 4000K is often recommended for salon environments, the team selected a warmer approach that more closely reflects the lighting conditions clients experience at home while still providing technicians with the illumination needed for their work.
The Power of Color
The use of International Klein Blue reinforces the salon’s identity while creating memorable moments throughout the space. Originally developed by French artist Yves Klein to preserve the intensity of ultramarine pigment, the color is known for its ability to feel bold without overwhelming a room. At Essere Blu, the dramatic blue fixtures serve as visual anchors that guide movement, reinforce mood, and create a distinctive sense of place within the salon.
Whole-self Care
In addition to hair treatments and a room devoted to hair extensions, the Gillicks invested in a soothing space for headspa treatments, and another area for facials, the FACEspace, a new skincare program by Davines.
Education
Continuous education is a significant part of the Essere Blue experience. The Gillicks travel extensively throughout the year, leading seminars on Davines techniques and products. It was important to them to have a room in their new salon that could serve as an education space adjacent to the styling floor.
